What is Potassium Bicarbonate?

Potassium Bicarbonate is a soft white slightly basic powdered substance which is widely used in food and drinks production.

What Can I Do With Potassium Bicarbonate?

Potassium Bicarbonate can be used in many different ways, some off which are detailed below:

Organic Fungicide
Potassium Bicarbonate is used as an organic fungicide. It works as a contact fungicide inhibiting the fungus mycelium development and increasing the pH to control fungus in crops. It considered a safe and non toxic fungicide for use in organic crop production.

Fire Extinguisher
Potassium Bicarbonate performs well as a fire extinguisher and is a common ingredient in powdered fire extinguishers. The slightly basic nature of potassium bicarbonate helps neutralise chemical fires and smothers the combusting material to put out the flames.

Neutralise Acidic Soil
Potassium Bicarbonate is used widely in agriculture as a soil neutraliser due to its basic nature and low toxicity. The powder is dissolved in water and the solution is then applied to the soil to increase the pH level.

Baking and Wine making
Potassium Bicarbonate is used in food production, wine making and drinks making to either add CO2 (rising agent) or control the release of CO2.
